Sexuality is a crucial part of sustaining happiness and satisfaction in a relationship. Content partners attribute only 15-20% of their happiness to a happy sex life but unhappy partners credit 50-70% of their unhappiness to sexual problems.

Men are more turned on by explicit material. Women are more stimulated by romantic words, images, stories and themes. Research shows that men seek emotional closeness by doing things side by side while women want face-to-face intimacy.

The Kapelow’s consulted with experts like Masters and Johnson Institute,  The Kinsey Institute, Harvard Medical School and other distinguished institutions and professionals.  They spent years interviewing and documenting the normal dimensions of sexuality.  After reviewing 600 couples, they chose 15 real couples to represent many of the dimensions of normal sexuality through video.  This new direction married the success of reality TV (people like to watch other people) and the foundational work of Alfred Kinsey who interviewed real people to support his famed work The Kinsey Report.

The results are 8 DVDs with 15 couples who tell their stories through explicit demonstration of their lovemaking without script or direction from the production crew.  The DVDs include non-explicit interviews that are equally revealing of the couples’ relationships and their intimacy. The Lovers Exploration Guide book ties together the many dimensions of sexuality guiding couples through an exploration of themselves and each other.

About Loren Kapelow:

Dr. Tom Hicks Psy.D., LMFT
Tom has practiced psychotherapy for over 30 years.  He has extensive experience in hospital-based, private practice, and agency-based psychotherapy and supervision. He taught at San Diego State University for over 10 years in the Graduate School of Marriage and Family Therapy. He currently teaches graduate and doctoral psychology at a private University in San Diego.

Tom is the co-author for Lovers Exploration Guide: Creating An Intimate Erotic Connection published in 2010 and the chapter Sex, Drugs, and Postmodern Therapy: A Teen Finds Her Voice in the book Narrative Therapies with Children and Adolescents published in 1997.
